What is an independent variable?
explanatory variable that cause the dependent variable to change
What is an dependent variable?
response variable; responds to independent variable
Describe a probability sample
participants randomly selected every individual considered for the study has equal opportunity to be included
Describe a Non probability sample
whoever is available and willing to participate (snowball sample)
What is internal validity?
Confidence with which we can say that a relationship exists between variables
What is external validity?
how valid the results are for other populations (generalizability)
Name 4 ethical issues in research
- informed consent
- voluntary participation
- confidentiality
- do no harm
