Required Readings Flashcards
What is target prevalence?
describes the salience (or visibility) of an object or objects in the environment and influences visual search
What was the typical pattern
errors increased dramatically as and consistently as prevalence decreased
How did changing the prevalence affect the trial?
There was an increase in the number of errors that occurred
Why does changing the prevalence cause there to be more errors?
observers need a threshold for quitting when no target has been found
What happens when targets are frequent?
A fast ‘No’ response will lead to mistakes. Meaning that No will have a slower reaction time compared to ‘Yes’ in a high prevalence search
What percentage of users confessed to using their cell phones whilst driving?
85%
Driving inattention and other human error can be linked to what percentage of motor vehicle accidents?
50%
What often causes memory failures?
Omissions (sometimes involve errors of commission)
