1. fill polystyrene cup with 25cm^3 acid
2. put the cup inside a glass beaker so it doesn’t fall over
3. measure and record start temperature using the thermometer
4. put 5cm^3 of alkali in
5. add a lid and stir gently with the thermometer until the reading stops moving, then measure the temperature
6. repeat adding 5cm^3 each time until 40cm^3 has been added. repeat 1-5. then calculate the mean maximum temperature for each volume.

practical - making a pure salt

1) heat sulfuric acid
2) stir in CuO
3) let cool
4) filter solution to remove excess CuO
5) evaporate liquid away
