Q

How to prepare a dilution series of a solute to produce a calibration curve with which to identify the water potential of plant tissue

A

Label six boiling tubes 0.2-1.0 moldm^-3 sucrose
Use the 1 mol to make 20cm3 of each of the following concentrations
Draw a table to show how much water is being added
Stand tubes in 30 degrees water bath, use a thermometer to check that the bath is of the correct temperature
Use a potato chip cutter, ruler and scalpel so that they are all of same length, blot with paper towel
Weigh each and record initial masses
In water bath add each potato chip
Leave for 20 mins, remove chips, blot dry, record final masses
Calculate the change in mass and percentage change in mass
Plot graph of processes results, determine conc of sucrose with same water potential as the potatoes
