Q

What is the 1st method for the quadrat practical

A
  1. Lay the 25cm x 25 cm quadrat on the ground.
  2. Count and record the number of plants inside the quadrat.
  3. Use a random number generator to get a new set of coordinates to place the quadrat
  4. Count and record the number of plants inside the
    quadrat.
  5. Repeat steps 2-4 until you have recorded the numbers
    of plants in 10 quadrats

Q

What is the 2nd method for the quadrat practical

A
  1. Lay the 30m tape measure in a line from the base of a tree to an open area of ground.
  2. Put the 50cm x 50cm quadrat against the transect line.
  3. Count the number of plants within the quadrat
  4. Move the quadrat 5 m up the transect line and count the number of plants again.
  5. Continue to place the quadrat at 5 m intervals and count the number of plants in each quadrat.
  6. produce a graph of plant numbers against light intensity.

Q

What is the method for the decay practical

A

Place 20 cm3 of fresh milk into three beakers
Decide the three temperatures you will investigate.
Use universal indicator solution to determine the pH of the milk in the three beakers
Cover each beaker in cling film and incubate at the appropriate temperature
Use universal indicator solution to determine the pH of the milk in the three beakers after 24, 48 and 72 hours

Q

What is the method for the reaction practical

A

Work with a partner.
Person A holds out their hand with a gap between their thumb and first finger.
Person B holds the ruler with the zero at the top of person A’s thumb
Person B drops the ruler without telling Person A and they must catch it.
The number level with the top of person A’s thumb is recorded in a suitable table. Repeat this ten times.
Swap places, and record another ten attempts.
You can use the conversion table to help convert your ruler measurements into reaction time or just record the catch distance in cm.

Q

What is the method for the plant growth practical

A

Put cotton wool into three petri dishes, and add the same volume of water to each dish.
Add ten seeds to each dish and place them in a warm place
Allow the seeds to germinate
Once the seeds have germinated, ensure the petri dishes each contain the same number of seeds
One petri dish will sit in full light, the second will be in a dark, and the final dish will be placed in partial light.
measure the height of each seedling and record the results in a table.
Calculate the mean of the seedlings each day
