Required practical: Osmosis Flashcards
What equipment is needed for this experiment?
-Potato
-knife
-Tile
-Borer
-Ruler
-Filter paper
-Scales
What is the method for this experiment?
1-Cut 5 potato slices using knife, tile and borer
2-Even all chips to same length
3-Place chips on filter to dry up excess water
4-Record the weight of each chip using a scale
5-Place chips into different sucrose solutions.
6-Place a bung on top of each tube
Why do the chips need to be the same lengths?
So the mass is similar and also a fairer test and gives more conclusive answers.
Why should you dry up excess water?
So any excess water doesn’t interfere with the aim of the experiment.
Why should you dry up excess water?
So any excess water doesn’t interfere with the aim of the experiment.
What would happen if you didn’t put a bung on top of the tube?
Some of the solution would evaporate which leaves less liquid and makes the remain liquid more concentrated.
What is the independent variable?
The concentration of the salt solution
What is the dependent variable?
Change in mass
What sort of graph should be plotted?
A line graph
