Required Practical Key Words Flashcards
Define Accuracy
How close a measurement is to the true value. Do everything you can to minimise errors.
Define Reproducibility
If you can get similar results when trying to reproduce your experiment under equivalent (but not identical) conditions it is ‘reproducible’.
Define Precision
The ability to be exact/the closeness of agreement between repeats.
Define Validity
How useful your evidence is to actually answer the question
Define Repeatability
A measurement is ‘repeatable’ when a repetition under the same conditions gives the same or similar results.
Space-time
the concepts of time and three-dimensional space regarded as fused in a four-dimensional continuum.
Time dialation
The phenomenon, predicted by Albert Einstein’s Special and General Theories of Relativity, whereby, from the relative context of one observer’s frame of reference, another’s time (for example, an identical clock) appear to run slower. Thus, moving clocks run more slowly compared to stationary clocks and, the closer the speed of movement approaches to the speed of light, the greater the effect.
Gravitational time dilation is a related phenomenon, whereby time passes more slowly the higher the local distortion of space-time due to gravity (such as near a black hole, for example).
Source of error
Errors that may occur in the execution of a statistical experiment design. Types of experimental error include human error, or mistakes in data entry; systematic error, or mistakes in the design of the experiment itself ( causes an anomaly )
Accuracy
How close a measurement is to its true value
Define reliability
If you can repeat your results and someone else can reproduce your results to get same/similar values.
Accuracy
How close the result is to the true value
