Required practical 1 - making solution Flashcards
Step 1
Calculate required mass of substance to make a 200cm^3 solution of 0.1 moldm^3
Step 2
Weigh a clean, dry weighing boat on an accurate balance (2dp)
Step 3
Using a spatula, add the required mass of the substance to the weighing boat
Step 4
Remove from the balance, set to zero and measure the mass of the balance and its contents together
Step 5
Pour the contents of the weighing bottle into a clean, dry beaker and reweigh the weighing boat
Step 6
Calculate the mass of the required substance that has been added to the beaker
Step 7
Add approximately 100cm^3 of distilled water into the beaker and use a glass rod to stir until all of the solid has dissolved
Step 8
Using a funnel, transfer the solution from the beaker into a 250cm^3 volumetric flask - using further distilled water, wash the beaker, the funnel and the glass rod and add this into the volumetric flask
Step 9
Make the volumetric solution up to the graduated mark until the bottom of the meniscus is at 250cm^3
Step 10
Stopper the flask and invert to ensure it has mixed thoroughly
