Repsiration Flashcards
Describe the levels of organisation within organisms
Organelles, cells, tissues, organs, organ systems
How does the process of respiration produces ATP (energy) in living organism?
Respiration occur in cells (mitochondria) and oxygen reacts with glucose and then carbon dioxide, water and energy are released
What does ATP provides for cells ?
Energy
What are the differences between aerobic and anaerobic respiration?
Aerobic:
Produces carbon dioxide and water, uses oxygen.
Anaerobic:
Produces lactic acid, contributes to muscle tiredness, glucose is not broken down completely
What is the word equation for aerobic respiration?
Oxygen+ glucose= carbon dioxide+ water
What is the balanced symbol equation for aerobic respiration?
C6H12O6+ 6O2=6CO2+6H20
What is the word equation for anaerobic respiration in animals ?
Glucose= lactic acid+ energy
Why does anaerobic respiration releases less energy than aerobic respiration in your muscles ?
Because energy remains in the lactic acid that is produced
What is the word equation for anaerobic respiration in plants?
Glucose= lactic acid + ethanol + energy
