Reproductive anatomy Flashcards
Venous drainage of the gonads
-Left ovary/testis –> left gonadal vein –> left renal vein–> IVC -Right ovary/testis –> right gonadal vein –> IVC
Superficial inguinal lymph node
anal canal below pectinate line, distal vagina/vulva/scrotum, skin below the umbilicus
Obturator/external iliac lymph nodes
proximal vagina/uterus
Internal iliac lymph node
lower rectum, anal canal above pectinate line, vagina (middle third), prostate
Female Reproductive anatomy
Infundibuloligament
aka suspensory ligament
:connects ovaries to lateral pelvic wall; contains ovarian vessels
- ligate vessls during oophorectomy to avoid bleeding
- ureter courses retropeitoneally, close to gonadal vessles. At risk of injury during ligation of ovarian vessels.
Cardinal ligament
:connects cervix to side wall of pelvis; contains the uterine vesslels
-ureter at risk of injury during ligation of uterine vessels in hysterectomy
Round ligament
:connects uterine fundus to labia majora
-travels in round inguinal canal
Broad ligament
:connects uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries to pelvic side wall
-mesosalpinx, mesometrium, mesovarium are the components of the borad ligament
Ovarian ligament
:Connects the ovaries to lateral uterus
Vagina histolgy
stratified squamous epithelium, nonkeratinized
Ectocervix
Stratified squamous epithelium, nonkeratinized
Endocervix histology
simple columnar epithelium
transformation zone histology
squamocolumnar junction
most common area for cervical cancer
Uterus histology
simple columnar with long tubular glands
