DNA
DNA= library, holds all info Chromosomes= bookshelf, hold some info Gene= book, holds specific info
How many chromosomes are in a somatic cell?
46
Male sex cell
XY
Female sex cell
XX
Three reasons for cell division
Development: assigning jobs
Repair: healing body
Growth: growing and adjusting
Why does DNA double in interphase of cell cycle?
Because it has to create 2 daughter cells that are identical to the patent cell. If it did not double it would create 2 gametes, not somatic body cells.
Mitosis
Results in 2 genetically identical body cells
Meiosis
Results in 4 genetically different gametes- produces sex cells
Diploid cell
Any cell that contains full (2 sites) of chromosomes (somatic cells)
Haploid cell
Contains a half the usual number of chromosomes (sex cell)
