Q

Spermatogenesis

A

It takes place in the seminiferous tubules. Spermatogonia divide by mitosis; some become spermatocytes, which undergo meiosis. The first meiotic division produces two secondary spermatocytes. The second meiotic division produces two secondary spermatocytes per primary spermatocytes.

Q

Oogenesis

A

Oogonia differentiate into primary oocytes. A primary oocyte and the granulosa cells surrounding it make up a follicle.
As it grows a layer of theca cells is produced. As the follicle matures, the primary oocyte undergoes the first meiotic division giving rise to a secondary oocyte and a polar body.
During ovulation, the secondary oocyte is ejected from the ovary and enters one of the paired oviducts.
