Reproduction Flashcards
what is asexual reproduction
asexual reproduction that forms genetically identical offspring from only one parent
what are the four key features of asexual reproduction
1) Cell divides by mitosis
2) the offspring are clones
3) only one parent
4) no gamete fusion
define the process of reproduction
is where the nuclei of two gametes (sex cells) fuse to form a zygote (a process known as fertilisation
what are the four key features of sexual reproduction
1) Male and female gametes fuse
2) two parents
3) offspring are non identical
4) gametes are formed meiosis
what are gamete nuclei and what does it mean
gamete nuclei’s are haploids this means they contain half the number of chromosomes found in a normal cell
what are zygote nuclei
zygote nuclei are diploids this means they contains two complete sets of chromosomes
