Reproduction Flashcards
Parts of the male reproductive system
Bladder, Glands, Penis, Sperm Duct, Urethra, Testis, Foreskin, Scrotum
Function of the testes
Testes
- Produce millions of sperm
- Make male sex hormones which affect the way a man’s body develops
Function of the spent duct and glands
The sperm passes through the sperm ducts and mixes with fluids produced by the glands. These fluids provided the sperm with nutrients. The mixture is called semen.
Function of the penis and urethra
Penis
1. Pass urine out of the man’s body
2. Pass semen into the women’s vagina during sex
The urethra carries urine or semen. They are prevented from mixing by a ring of muscle at the top of the penis
Parts of female reproductive system
Oviduct, Ovary, Uterus, Bladder, Cervix, Vagina, Urethra
Function of the ovaries
The ovaries contain hundreds of eggs called ova. Women get all of their eggs from birth but men continuously produce theirs.
Function of the oviduct
Each ovary is attached to the uterus by the oviduct. The oviduct is lined won’t cillia which are tiny hairs on cells. These hairs help to waft the egg along when it is released from the ovary and passed through the tube
Function of the uterus
The uterus can also be called the womb. It is a muscular bag which is where the baby develops until its birth
Function of the cervix
The cervix is a ring of muscle at the lower end of the uterus. It keeps the baby in place until it’s birth.
Function of the vagina
The vagina is a tube which leads from the cervix to the outside of the body. This is where the man’s penis goes during sexual intercourse.
