Q

What are the two cells types in the seminiferous tubules?

A

Sertoli and leydig, leydig cells are paler. Sertoli cells are elongated, pyramidal and columnar and support the germ cells.

Q

What’s the blood-testis barrier?

A

The cell junctional complex between adjacent Sertoli cells which divides the epithelium into compartments. This prevents autoimmune attack on spermatids.

Q

Where is testosterone secreted from?

A

Leydig cells in the lobule stroma. Large polygonal cells. LH stimulates its release

Q

What are the products of the first phase of spermatogenesis and what is this stage called?

A

Q

What are the coni vasculosi ?

A

The 6-10 conical masses just before the duct of the epididymis. These form the globus major ie the head of the epididymis.

16
Q

Why is the ampulla of the ductus deferens ‘honeycombed’?

A

For storage

17
Q

Which layer are most of the prostatic glands located in?

A

The peripheral layer, which surrounds central zone around the ejaculatory ducts

18
Q

Which part of the prostate normally has a midline sulcus and can be palpated on a DRE?

A

Peripheral zone, most posterior and lateral

19
Q

Where are the bulbourethral glands?

A

Just below the prostate before the corpus cavernosum starts

20
Q

What is the name for the layer inside the tunica albuginea which is vascularised and loose?

A

Tunica vasculosa
