Renal system Flashcards
location of the kidney
Retro Peritoneal Cavity
urinary system contains
Kidneys
urinary tract
- ureters, urinary bladder, urethra
structure and function of the kidney
- renal cortex, renal medulla, renal pyramid,
- adrenal gland connected to the top
- nephron, collecting duct, and collecting tubule.
- filters blood to produce urine which is secreted
nephron structure
renal corpuscle [ glomerulus and glomerulus capsule]
- site of filtration production
renal tubule [proximal convoluted tubule, nephron loop, distal convoluted tubule]
the function of the kidney
Very [ volume, increase in vol= increase BP] Clever [concentration] Pigeons [ph balances levels] Migrate [ metabolism] East [excrete] E [endocrine]
ureters
Transports urine from the kidney to the urinary bladder
Urinary bladder
stores urine and changes shape to accommodate urine
Urethra
supports transport of urine from bladder to exterior of body
hormonal regulation of fluid and electrolyte balance
ADH - Anti-dieuretic hormone
ALDO - Aldosterone
angiotensin II
aldosterone
stimulates reabsorption of sodium and water to maintain blood volume and pressure
produced in the cortex of the adrenal gland
ADH
decreases fluid output to regulate fluid balance by
- stimulating thirst centre to increase fluid intake
- decrease fluid output from kidney to maintain blood vol
- decrease blood osmolarity
Angiotensin
stimulates vasoconstriction = increase resistance
stimulated ADH and ALDO
increase thirst center, decrease fluid output
= increase blood pressure
Atrial Natriuretic peptide
Decrease blood volume and pressure by increasing fluid output and vasodilation.
osmolarity
lowered osmolarity decreases ADH secretion and loss of salt
increased osmolarity increases ADH secretion leading to absorption of water.
urine formation
Filtration
reabsorbtion
secretion
