Renal Physiology Flashcards
Where are simple cuboidal cells found in nephron?
- DCT
- Thick limb LOH
Where are simple squamous cells found in nephron?
Thin desecening/ascending LOH
Where are simple columnar cells found in nephron?
Collecting duct
What cells are found in the PCT?
Simple cuboidal cells with microvilli
increase surface area = increase H2O absorption
Where is majority of H2O absorbed in the nephron?
PCT: 65% H2O
Which part of the LOH is H2O absorbed
Thin descending limb
Absorb approx 20%
Which part of LOH is impermeable to H2O?
Thin/Thick ascending limb
What effect does the filtrate has when it passes the thick ascending limb?
Hypo-osmotic tubular lumen (more diluted)
solutes are Reabsorbed but not water
What effect does ADH have on the collecting duct?
Increase expression of aquporin channels
Increases H2O absorption
What transporter is found at the LOH?
NaKCC: Sodium/Potassium/Chloride cotransporter
What transporter is found at the PCT?
SGLT-2
How is H2O reabsorbed in the collecting duct?
- Aquaporin channels by ADH
- Osmotic gradient created by the countercurrent system of the LOH
How does LOH create the countercurrent system?
H2O-permeable descending limb + H2O-impermeable ascending limb + reabsortion of solute = concentrated interstitium
Maximises H2O reabsorption in the kidneys
What cotransporter is found at DCT?
NCC transporter
What cotransporter is found in LOH?
NKCC cotransporter
