Q

What does Glomerulonephritis cause?

A
  • Inflammation of the glomerulus
  • Inflamed glomerulus is less efficient causing a decrease in Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR)
  • Inflammation causes filtration membrane to become ‘leaky’ (blood cells and large proteins)

Q

What is the difference between Nephritic and Nephrotic Syndrome?

A

Nephritic Syndrome is the inflammation of the glomerulus

Nephrotic Syndrome is where there is ongoing leaky basement membrane often leading to protein in urine
