Renal Clearance Flashcards
define clearance
the rate at which plasma is cleared of a particular substance
what is creatinine
end product of creatine
what is amount of creatinine in body proportional to?
to muscle mass
what is inulin?
fructose polymer
what does inulin require and if used in renal clearance how does it achieve what is required?
- requires infusion
- if in renal clearance, infused intravenously
what is the equation for rate of clearance and define each symbol
UV/P
U = the concentration of the substance in urine
V = the rate of urine production
P = the concentration of the substance in the plasma
what is the normal creatinine clearance in the average healthy female and average healthy male (they are different)
female: 88 - 128 mL/min
Male: 97 - 137 mL/min
what does plasma flow equal (theoretically)?
equals PAH clearance
what is the equation for renal blood flow?
renal blood flow = renal plasma flow divided by haematocrit
what is equation links FF to GFR and RPF
FF = GFR/ RPF
what equation links FF to clearance of inulin/ creatinine (GFR) and clearance of PAH (RPF)
FF = Clearance of inulin or creatinine / clearance of PAH
