Renal And Reproductive System Flashcards
What is the function of the Adrenal Gland?
Produces hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol, which help regulate metabolism, immune system, and stress response.
What role does the Epididymis play in the male reproductive system?
Stores sperm and is the site where sperm matures.
Urinary Bladder
A muscular sac in the pelvis that stores urine before it is excreted from the body.
What is the Renal Fascia?
Connective tissue that anchors the kidneys and adrenal glands to surrounding structures.
Function of the Renal Pelvis?
Collects urine from the kidney and channels it into the ureter.
What do the Ureters do?
: Transport urine from the kidneys to the urinary bladder.
Define the Urethra
The tube that carries urine from the bladder to be excreted from the body.
What are the Uterus and Cervix?
The uterus is where a fetus develops, and the cervix is the lower part that opens into the vagina.
Where is the Pelvic Cavity located, and what does it contain?
The space within the pelvis, containing reproductive organs, bladder, and rectum
Describe Transitional Epithelium
A type of tissue that lines the bladder and allows it to stretch to accommodate urine.
Purpose of the Renal Artery and Vein?
The renal artery supplies blood to the kidneys, and the renal vein carries filtered blood away from them.
Function of the Fallopian Tubes.
Transport eggs from the ovaries to the uterus.
What are the Seminal Vesicles?
Glands that produce a fluid that nourishes and helps transport sperm.
What is the Vas Deferens?
A tube that transports sperm from the epididymis to the ejaculatory duct.
Role of the Prostate Gland?
Produces fluid that nourishes and protects sperm.
What is a Nephron?
The functional unit of the kidney that filters blood to form urine.
Describe the Detrusor Muscle.
A muscle in the bladder wall that contracts to release urine.
What is the Ejaculatory Duct?
A duct through which semen passes during ejaculation
Define the Renal Cortex and Medulla.
The cortex is the outer part of the kidney, and the medulla is the inner part where filtration and urine production occur.
What is Spermatozoa?
The male reproductive cells (sperm).
Function of the Trigone of the Bladder
A triangular area in the bladder that signals when it needs to be emptied.
Purpose of the Internal and External Urethral Sphincters
Control the release of urine from the bladder.
What is Bowman’s Capsule?
A structure in the nephron that encases the glomerulus and starts the process of blood filtration.
Define Gonads
The organs that produce gametes (sperm in males and eggs in females).
