What is renal amyloidosis?

A
  • hereditary disorder - autosomal dominant
  • misfolded proteins (amyloid) accumulates in the kidney
  • causes proteinuria and/or hypertension followed by progressive kidney failure
  • depending on the specific genotype it can affect other organs such as GI tract, liver, spleen, heart and skin
