Chronic Glomerulonephritis Flashcards
1
Q
What is chronic glomerulonephritis?
A
- characterised by irreversible and progressive glomerular and tubulointerstitial fibrosis
- ultimately leading to a reduction in the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and retention of uremic toxins.
- if disease progression is not halted with therapy it can lead to chronic kidney disease, end-stage renal disease (ESRD), and cardiovascular disease.
- the specific cause of CKD in patients with chronic glomerulonephritis may be unknown in many patients
- progression from acute glomerulonephritis to chronic glomerulonephritis

Q
What are other types of glomerulonephritis?
A
-rapidly progressing glomerulonephritis
- focal segmental glomerulonephritis
- membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis
- post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis
- Lupus nephritis
