Q

You see a 2mo with K 7.2. Which of the following diagnoses is NOT associated with this lab finding?
A) congenital adrenal hyperplasia
B) hyperaldosteronism
C) pyeloneohritis
D) decreased arterial Blood Volume

A

B. Aldosterone increases Na absorption which exchanges with K and leads to K excretion—so would cause hypokalemia.

CAH results in underproduction of Aldo so this could occur.
Pyelo could cause cellular injury which can blunt response to aldosterone (aka, cause hyperK).
Dec blood volume can cause poor tissue perfusion and metabolic acidosis which causes transcellular K Movement and dec in K excretion.
