Sonnet
(1304 - 1374), commonly anglicized as Petrarch, was an Italian scholar and poet in Renaissance Italy, and one of the earliest humanists.
Francesco Petrarca (Petrarch)
was a humanist writer during the Renaissance and wrote books about leadership
Machiavelli
In 1429, he became the head of the Medici family. He funded many architects, sculptors, and painters to create marvels to parallel the Greeks and Romans
Cosimo de Medici
Cosimo’s Grandson who was dedicated to the arts used his power to make Florence Italy’s capital of art and learning.
Lorenzo de Medici
Was considered a real renaissance man. He was a painter, sculptor, architect, and poet. He was best known for the way he portrayed the human body in paintings and sculptures.
Michelangelo
Made sculptures more realistic by carving natural postures and expressions that reveal personality. Created the first large, free-standing, anatomically correct sculpture of the human body since ancient times.
Donatello
was a painter who studied both Leonardo and Michelangelo. He filled the walls of Pope Julius II’s Library with several paintings.
Raphael
He was a sculptor, painter, designer, and scientist. He is considered a Renaissance Man.
Leonardo da Vinci
This German Inventor created technology that would change the way people communicated and, ultimately, the way they thought.
Johannes Gutenberg
A visitor who traveled to Italy for learning. He found inspiration from Italy and shared it with the citizens of his home country.
Erasmus
Often regarded as the greatest writer in the English Language, he had a significant impact on English.
- Produced 38 Plays, 154 Sonnets, 2 long narrative poems, and a few other verses.
William Shakespeare
He was considered the greatest scholastic philosopher. He was the guy who said that humanism (secular) and God (religion) can be practiced at the same time.
