Removal of Cellular Wastes Flashcards
How are most cellular wastes removed?
By diffusion.
Why is carbon dioxide a waste, and how is it removed?
Carbon dioxide from carbonic acid with water in cytosol, making cell acidic and impacting enzymes. It is removed by diffusion and respiratory system.
Why is ammonia a waste, and how is it removed?
Produced in the digestion of proteins, it is toxic to cells. Removed in the urea of urine.
Why is hydrogen peroxide a waste, and how it is removed?
Toxic to cells, removed by peroxisomes.
How is heat a waste, and how is it removed?
Can affect enzymes, removed by radiation and evaporation in sweat.
How do lysosomes assist in removing wastes?
Lysosomes are vesicles/organelles that dispose of cells wastes, contain digestive enzymes, break down material and excrete it by joining with the cell membrane.
How is oxygen removed out of the cell/organism?
Diffusion
How is water, and waste chemicals dissolved in water removed?
By osmosis
