What are the two main divisions of the Bible?

What does the term ‘inerrant’ mean?
It means that Scripture doesn’t contain any mistakes or errors
How are Catholics expected to read the Bible? (Hint: literally or contextually)
As Catholics, we read the Bible in a contextual way. This means that we do not read one sentence and take it at literal ‘word for word’ value
How many books do the Catholic and the Protestant Bibles have within them (Old Testament and the New Testament)?
-The Catholic and Protestant Bibles both include 27 books in the New Testament.
-Protestant Bibles have only 39 books in the Old Testament
-Catholic Bibles have 46 books in the Old Testament

What are the four Gospels? What are the synoptic Gospels?
The four gospels are Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The Synoptic gospels and Matthew, Mark, and Luke
What does the word ‘Gospel’ mean?
Good News
Why is the Gospel, according to John, unique from the rest?
-It contains speeches and other stories not found in the other Gospels
-It does not contain any parables
-It speaks of “signs” as opposed to “miracles”

Refers to the Passion, Death, Resurrection, and Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ

What is a moral decision, and what does it involve?
A moral decision aligns with the teachings and principles of morals and ethics of the Catholic Church.
It involves making choices and taking actions based on a well-informed conscience
Life and Dignity of the Human Person
Everyone is their own person and is unique. Everyone deserves the same respect and rights. Everyone should be treated with care and love.
-How? Be kind to everyone and treat people the way you would want to be treated
Rights and Responsibilities
No matter who you are, you should have the same rights and responsibilities as everyone else
How? Follow your duties to the world by not doing anything Jesus wouldn’t want you to do
Call to Family, Community and Participation
Participate/ take care of your community and family with love
How?Try to be there and do whatever you can for your family and community. Every little thing you do matters
Preferential Option for the Poor and Vulnerable
Show the poor/ vulnerable with love and care as you would with anyone else
How?Never look down upon the poor/ vulnerable and rather take care and help them out
The Dignity of Work and The Rights of Workers
Everyone should get paid what they deserve, and everyone should get the right to work
How? God made this world to work, so try to get a job when you are ready
Solidarity
Stand beside the followers and the people of God even when the world tells you not to
How? Don’t care what everyone else thinks, and stand with God. Follow in Jesus’ footsteps even when it is hard.
Care for God’s Creation
Take care of the world God Gave you; we only get one
How? Try to pollute less, turn off water and lights when not in use, carpool, and try to do anything in your power to help the earth
What is a parable?
Parables are special stories used in Jesus’ teachings
What are the two types of parables? Be able to recognize the difference between them.
- Window Parables-These let us have some idea of what God is like
- Mirror Parables-These allows us to see ourselves reflected as we are, or as we should be
What are the three types of miracles? Be able to recognize the difference between them.
- Healing-Jesus relieves people’s physical sufferings; Jesus restores people to life after their death
- Nature Miracles-Jesus demonstrates control over the forces of nature
- Expulsion (Exorcisms)-Jesus drives out evil spirits from people; this is Spiritual Healing
How many natures does Jesus have?
Two, he is Human and also fully Divine (one with God).
What is a disciple?
someone who is a follower of Jesus
What are the three aspects of discipleship?
- Follower-Using the Good News as a guide for how to live
- Discipline- Transforming the Good News into behaviour
- Believer- Knowing the Good News and, in turn, knowing God in a deep personal sense
What is The Golden Rule? What does it encourage people to do in every situation?
“Treat others the way you want to be treated.” The Golden Rule encourages people to treat others with kindness, respect, and empathy, just as they would like to be treated in similar situations.
