Reliability & Validity Flashcards
What is reliability?
Consistency of results/ findings.
How do we check if a test is reliable?
Inter- observer reliability
Test- retest method
Split - half method
State what is meant by inter- observer reliability.
One person observes & compares findings with others at the end of the test/ study.
State what is meant by the test- retest method.
Administer the test and re-do the test later on in time with the same participants.
What is Validity?
It is if a test measures what is intended.
What are the types of validity?
Internal and External
What is meant by internal validity?
Variables within the study.
What is meant by external validity?
Can the results be generalised outside of the study.
How do we assess validity?
Face validity
Concurrent validity
Predictive validity
What is meant by face validity?
someone checks to see if the test would work.
What is meant by predictive validity?
Whether the results predict a future consequence.
