Reliability Flashcards
Two cops are interviewing a suspect who is suspected of robbery. The first cop was nice to him and asked him a set of 10 questions. One hour later, the second cop came in, with a mean demeanor and asked him the same questions to see if he would get the same answers. What kind of test reliability is this? Why?
Inter-rater reliability because two interviews are supposed to give you the same results and that’s what the cops are trying to verify.
Mr. Galguera was interviewing Nicholas Bearzi to find out whether he lives in London or not. The next week, Augustina asked Nicholas the same questions Mr. Galguera asked him in order to find out whether Nicholas is lying or not. Therefore, testing reliability.
Inter-rater reliability because two interviews are supposed to give you the same results and that’s what the cops are trying to verify.
A group of scientists at Pziser have come up with a new insulin that is supposed to keep your blood sugar level balanced even if you drink two milkshakes. On the week of trials, they tested this new insulin on 20 participants and their levels were balanced. The following week, the same participants were tested again and their levels, once again, were balanced. What kind of test reliability is this? Why?
Test/retest because the scientists are conducting the same two experiments twice to test for reliability.
A participant in being tested by a scientist in order to find out the effects of blue light on mood. After exposing the participant for two hours to blue light, he will be asked a series of interview questions to measure his mood. A week later, the participant will come back to the lab to conduct the same study again with the same interview questions. What kind of test reliability is this? Why?
Test/retest because they’re doing the same test twice in order to test the reliability of the findings.
Mr. Cooper wants to verify that he did a good job teaching “Functions and Modeling.” Therefore, he’s going to give a 50-question test with similar questions to his 7th period class. He will give the first 25 questions on day 1 and the next 25 questions on day 2. What kind of test reliability is this? Why?
Split-half method because Mr. Cooper is comparing two halves of a test for reliability.
Define reliability::
The consistency of an outcome. It has to be the same all the time for it to be reliable.
Define External Reliability:
Extent one measure of an object varies from another (a ruler should give the same
measurement if used next month) the same interview should have the same outcome.
Define Internal Reliability:
The extent test is consistent with itself, all questions in IQ test measure.
