Sources of moral authority for Catholics
The Bible:All Christians use the bible. It is God’s word in the form of a book. Christians believe that God reveals all of his teachings here.
Church Teaching:Roman Catholics look towards the Pope and the church(priest, bishops, documents, catechism) to help explain Gods teachings.
Tradition:Catholics believe there have been prominent Christians who have further revealed an interpreted God’s word.
Conscience:We have the freedom to choose our own actions and many Catholics believe our conscience is God speaking to us, guiding us to make the right decisions and to lead us towards him.
Annulment in the Catholic Church
Annulment: The decision that the marriage did not properly occur in the first place.
The Catholic Church believe that there is no valid marriage in the first place.
Divorce in the Catholic Church
Divorce: The legal ending of a marriage.
According to UK law, when a couple divorce they are no longer married and so each is free to remarry.
- The couple made promises including ‘till death do us part’.
- God made man and woman united as one.
- Jesus taught that anyone who has divorced and the married another person was committing adultery.
Remarriage in the Catholic Church
The Catholic Church does not accept remarriage for either couple who have had a valid Catholic marriage.

Catholic Church teaching about sexual love
Marital - When two people love each other and they want to commit themselves fully to one another.
Unitive - The purpose of sex which believes that sex brings the couple together and unites them.
Pro-creative - The purpose of sex which believes that all life comes from God but God acts through sex to create new life.
Sex before marriage
The Catholic Church teaches that sex is the total commitment of a man to a woman.
Homosexuality
Sexual attraction or behaviour between members of the same sex (gender).
Catholic teaching on homosexuality
The Catholic Church believes that sex should be open to the possibility of new life.

Sacrament (God has the role in the marriage)

Life-giving (to have children)
Role and purpose of the family
Nuclear family-A family group consisting of a married man and woman with their children.
Forgiveness
Pardoning someone for something that they have done wrong.
