- lifelong commitment to another person, establishing permenant stable relationship teaching good and moral behaviour

- Marriage is a sacrament - ceremony in which god is involved
- believed to be a gift from God
- secure and safe environment for children to be raised as christians

A

Purpose
- Bring a man and woman together to have children
- share love, companionship and sex, Allah’s intention for humans
- To create a family and strengthen society
- All muslims should marry because prophet muhammed was married
- Marriage brings Allah’s blessing and forgiveness
Beliefs
- intended to be for life
- Many help their children to find the right partner (arranged marriages)
- Muslim women expected to marry within the islam faith so children will be raised as muslims
- Muslim men can marry outside religion as children follow the faith of the father
- Marriage seen as a legal contract
- Muslim men may have up to four wives but muslim women can only have one husband
- Islam encourages marriage, following example of Muhammed
- Allah believed to have created man and woman for eachother

A

Some believe its wrong as
- Marriage intended by God between man and woman
- Same-sex partners cannot have children which is natural purpose of christian marriage
- homosexuality seen to undermine family unit
- Bible teaches homosexuality is wrong
- “Man shall not lie with man as he lies with woman” could be interpreted as “boy” in reference to pedophilia
Other christians tolerate it
-Its natural as all humans created equal by god
- Some christians will bless a civil partnership
- same-sex couples demonstrate feelings of love and should be allowed to celebrate their commitment
- “love thy neighbour” respect everyone, including homosexuals
