  • God loves everyone qually therefore, all people should be treated equally
  • The ten commandments support most human rights laws

What are muslim teachings on human rights?

A
  • It is our duty to life
  • All humans were created by Allah - All humans should have the same entitlement
  • We stand up against injustice in the world where human rights are being denied
  • Muhammad tried to demonstate the fair treatment of all people and muslims should follow his example
  • The Qur’an has teachings in it that support human rights

Why should christians promote racial harmony?

A
  • Parable of the good samaritan Jesus taught that people follow God’s command to love one another
  • Golden rule to treat others how you want to be treated “do unto others what you would have them do to you
  • They should promote racial harmony as its putting God’s teachings into practice
  • “love thy neighbour”
  • “God created man in his own image”
  • e.g Martin Luther King worked for black poeple to get equality in /usa, putting christian principles of helping others into action, his work got black people the vote
  • Desmond tutu - First black anglican archbishop of capetown, taught that everyone was equal regardless of their skin colour and campaigned for gay rights

Why muslims should promote racial harmony?

A
  • Muhammed declared in last sermon “there is no difference between arabs and non-arabs” people from all races are equal and racism is wrong
  • Qur’an teaches that no race is better than another
  • Muslims believe Allah created all humans equally and, therefore, all humans should be treated equally regardless of race
  • All muslims are part of the worldwide ummah, from every race across the world

  • Muslims from all around the world pray together in arabic - shared language
  • All male pilgrims shave their heads and all muslims wear white Ihram as symbol of equality on pilgrimage to mecca
  • All muslims from around the world face mekkah when praying, attend hajj and fast during ramadan
  • There are examples of individual Muslims who campaigned for racial e.g Muhammad Ali
