Describe christian sanctity or life
- “God created mankind in his own image”
- human life is holy and sacred because its a gift from god and belongs to him - made on sixth day of creation according to bible
- humans are special and different to the rest of creation
- important as it determines their views on issues such as abortion and euthanasia
- they will value human life
- it will guide them when making moral decisions and determine how they treat other
Muslim beliefs on sanctity of life
- life is special and holy as all life is created by allah
- they should respect all life and not harm any living thing
- every human life is worth the same value as another
-Allah is the creator of life and only he can take it away - “whoever kills one has killed all of mankind”
- “do not kill yourself… Allah is to you ever merciful”
Christian views on life after death
Believe there is life after death
- Bible and gospels talk of the death and resurrection of jesus
- Jesus taught christians that there is an afterlife “My fathers house has many rooms: if that were not so, would i have told you that i am going there to prepare a place for you”
- Jesus taught that God sent him to earth so humanity may have eternal life in heaven “God so loved the world that he gave his only son”
- most Christians believe body stays in the grave and soul goes to God for judgement - those who are good go to heaven and souls of unrepentant sinners go to hell
How does believe in afterlife affect christian behaviour?
- Confession to repent sins
- Prayer to communicate more frequently with god
- Doing good work and helping others because God is watching them
- Putting christian teachings into action by following gods commandments
- Vocation dedicate their lives to god through work to help others e.g charity, doctors, nurses, or nuns
Muslim teachings about death and the afterlife
- Allah has full control over life and death
- the world will end when allah chooses and at this time people will face judgement (judgement day)
- good deeds and bad deeds will be judged
- people will either be sent to Jannah (heaven) or Jahannam (hell) for good or bad life
- Quran states we came from allah and must return to him
- Allah is the judge 99 names
- Akhirah (life after death)
- after death angel of death takes a persons soul to barzakh (between dying and judgement)
-Allah will judge each individual on how they lived their life - On the day of judgement body will be desereccted
- Two recording angels (Raqib and Atid) open book containing records of a persons life
- If their name is on right side they will be sent to Jannah, paradise with allah
- if name on left side sent to jahannam
