  • revealed to muhammed over 23 years
  • written in arabic
  • Qur’an means ‘recitation’ as spoken to muhammed - illiterate
  • divided into Surah (chapters) and ayats (verses)
  • came from Allah
  • used in prayer and for guidance

What do muslims believe about Kutub?

A
  • other holy books revealed by Allah
  • Torah - given to Musa/Moses, means instruction, important laws
  • scrolls - revealed to Ibrahim, used by his sons, believed to be lost and perished over time
  • Gospel - Isa/Jesus revealed by Allah
  • Psalms - holy book of david, some muslims believe still relevant “to David we gave the book [of Psalms]

  • Ibrahim - encouraged worship of Allah, willing to sacrafice son teaches muslims to submit to Allah

  • Muhammed - seal of prophets - final message of Allah, perfect message - Qur’an

Describe Muslim beliefs about Al-Quadr.

A

-Sunni only
- everything is in the will and plan of Allah and how they react will be rewarded on Judgement day
- Muslims want to live their lives according to beliefs of judgement day and Al- Qadr to ensure reward in afterlife
- constantly be aware of their thoughts to ensure behave as allah wants them to
- help others as Muhammed did

A
  • messengers of Allah
  • Jibril - through him Quran revealed to Muhammed over 23 years, believed to have taught Muhammed how to pray
  • Izra’il - angel of death - signal coming of judgement day by blowing trumpet, return human souls to Allah
  • Mikai’il - rewarding those who led good lives - bring rain and thunder to earth
  • Raqid and Atib - recording angels, record good and bad
  • angels have no free will

Describe the 6 beliefs of Sunni Islam

  • Tawhid - oneness of Allah
  • Malaikah - belief in angels
  • Authority of Kutub - main holy book Qur’an, also recognise scrolls, Torah and Psalms
  • Risalah - prophethood - recognising prophets
  • Al -Qadr - Allah knows everything that will happen even though they have freewill
  • Akhirah - life after death - there is life after death, belief in judgement day
