Relationship between DNA, chromosomes, gene, allele Flashcards
Explain DNA
DNA is a double helix that carries the genetic information of an organism.
What are chromosomes made out of and how many to we have in the human body?
Chromosome are made out of DNA and protein. We have 46 chromosomes in our body
Explain allele
allele is an alternative form of a gene, e.g, blue eyes
Explain gene
A gene is a section of DNA that codes for a specific characteristic, e.g., the colour of an eye.
Define recessive alleles
This is a type of allele that, when present on its own, won’t affect the individual. Two copies of the alleles need to be present for the phenotype to be expressed.
Define dominant allele
Only one copy of the dominant allele is required to express the trait.
