Rehabilitation Methods Flashcards
What are the 5 rehabilitation methods
Proprioceptive training
Strength training
Hydrotherapy
Hyperbaric chambers
Cryotherapy
What can be used to recover from exercise (6)
Compression garments
Foam rollers
Massage
Cold therapy
Ice baths
Cryotherapy
What is proprioceptive training
Teach your body to control the the position of a deficient or injured joint
What could be used for proprioceptive training
A wobble board
What are the 4 options for strength training
Free weights
Machine weights
Body weight
Therabands
Why are therabands used for rehabilitation
There is varying resistance for different stages of recovery
How is body weight used for rehabilitation
Can be low impact, beneficial in early stages of recovery
How is fixed weight used for rehabilitation
Provide athlete with lots of control, good for early stages
How are Free weights used for rehabilitation
Can make exercise sports specific, ensures correct muscles are strengthened
What is hydrotherapy (3)
In warm water (35-37 degrees).
buoyancy of water helps support injured joints (hydrostatic pressure).
Improves blood circulation, relieves pain and relaxes muscles.
What is Hyperbaric chambers (3)
Reduces recovery time
Has 100% pressurised oxygen
Pressure increases the oxygen inhaled and goes to injured area
What is cryotherapy
Limits pain and swelling by reducing blood flow.
Through vasoconstriction the blood is taken to the core to keep warm.
When in the warm again blood floods back bringing O2 to help injured cells.
