Logging instrument time

A
  1. 51 g(1) - A person log instrument time only for that flight time when the person operates the aircraft solely by reference to instruments under actual or simulated instrument flight conditions.
    (2) - An authorized flight instructor may log instrument flight time when conduction instrument flight instruction in actual instrument conditions.
  2. 51 g(3i-ii)(4) Location and type of each approach, safety pilot if required, flight simulator may be used by a person to log instrument time provided an authorized instructor is present during simulated flight.

To act as pilot in command of a civil aircraft under IFR

A

Valid pilot certificate (Flight review or FAA checkride within the preceding 24 calendar months), current medical certificate, and current instrument rating.

Recency Experience requirements to act as PIC under IFR

A

61.57(c) 66HIT - Preceding 6 months, conduct 6 instrument approaches, holding patterns, intercepting and tracking navigational courses.
61.57(d) Additional 6 months after PIC currency expires to complete these requirements before an instrument Proficiency Check (IPC) is required
Safety pilot must be rated in the same category and clss of aircraft, with at least a current medical and PPL
Passenger currency, 90 rule: within the preceding 90 days performed 3 takeoffs and landings (full stop in taildragger) in same category, class, and type if required.
Night currency: 3 takeoffs and landings to a full stop 1 hour after sunset and 1 hour before sunrise in same category, class, and type if required.

1 hour before and 1 hour after ETA weather is forecasted to be less than 2000 ceilings and 3 sm visibility
If airport of intended landing has only GPS approaches unless WAAS upgraded (AIM 1-2-3f,1-1-20)

A

91.205 - fly to the first airport of intended landing, then to the alternate, and another 45 minutes at normal cruising speed.

Takeoff minimums

A

91.175 (f) For parts 121, 125, 127, 129, and 135, no pilot may takeoff under IFR conditions unless the minimums are above the prescribed minimums for that airport. If none are prescribed, then 2 engines or less 1 SM visibility, more than 2 engines 1/2 visibility
Part 91 no takeoff minimums.

Oxygen requirements

A

91.211 - Cabin pressure altitudes of 12,500’ up to and including 14,000’ MSL, required minimum flight crew provided and use O2 for that portion of the flight greater than 30 minutes
Cabin pressure altitudes above 14,000’ MSL minimum flight provided and use O2 entire flight
Cabin pressure altitudes above 15,000’ MSL all passengers must be provided with O2
Above FL 250 a 10 minute supply is required for every occupant
Above FL 350 at least 1 pilot must be wearing a mask unless quick donning mask are equipped
Above FL 350 when 1 pilot is at the controls he must wear the mask at all times
Above FL 410 1 pilot must wear the mask at all times
