What is a commuter operation?

What is the definition of a “direct air carrier”?

What’s a definition of a domestic operation?
- Flights conducted in a turbojet, having more than 9 seats (excluding crew), or having a payload more than 7,500 lbs
- Between any points within the contiguous states of the US, or within any state/US territory, or from the contiguous US to any point outside of the contiguous 48 states with specifically authorized by the administrator
What is a flag operation?
- Flights conducted in a turbojet, having more than 9 seats (excluding crew), or having a payload more than 7,500 lbs
- From Alaska/Hawaii to the contiguous US, or vice versa, or between any point outside the US to another point outside US
What does a “kind of operation” mean?
- That refers to one of the various operations a certificate holder is authorized to conduct as specified in its operations specifications
What is Zero Fuel Weight?
It’s the total amount of weight an aircraft weighs without the fuel
- It helps determine the amount of fuel that can be taken after loading everything in the plane, and allows for flight planning to ensure fuel is added while staying without exceeding weight limitations
Where can I find the zero fuel weight of an aircraft?
TCDS, AFM or both
What would determine an on demand operation?
110.2 Definitions
Passenger carrying operations with:
* Common carriage in a/c with 30 or less pax seats (excluding crew seats) and a max payload of 7,500 lbs
* Private/noncommon carriage conducted w/ airplanes having a pax seat configuration of less than 20 seats (excluding crew member seats) and a payload capacity of less than 6,000 lbs
Scheduled pax carrying operations conducted:
* In a turbojet airplane, with max seat configuration of 9 seats or less (excluding crew seats) and max payload capacity of 7,500 lbs
* With a frequency of operations of less than 5 round trips per week on at least one route between two or more points according to the published flight schedule
* All-cargo ops conducted in airplanes having a payload capacity of 7,500 lbs or less
If a plane is used for flag or domestic operations, can it also be used for on demand operations?
- Yes, but those operations must be listed on it’s operations specifications as required by 119.49(a)(4) since they’re considered supplemental operations
