1. Large aircraft 12,500lbs (except lighter-than-air)

If you’re type rated in an aircraft that requires a SIC, what would you have to do prior to flying SIC in that aircraft?

What are your privileges and limitations as a certificated commercial pilot?

A commercial pilot certificate allows me to act as PIC of an aircraft

What is the difference between proficiency and currency?
Currency: Is meeting the legal requirements to operate an airplane
Proficiency: Is having recent experience to operate an aircraft safely
What’s required to fly under BasicMed?
AC 68-1
1. Hold a US driver’s license
- Hold or have held, a medical issued by the FAA at any point after July 15, 2006
- Answer the health question on the CMEC
- Get your physical exam by ANY state licensed physician, and have that physician complete the CMEC (48 months)
- Take the online medical education course within the preceding (24 mos). Keep the course completion document
What are the limitations with BasicMed?
AC 68-1
1. Fly an airplane with no mor than 6 occupants
- Fly an aircraft under 6,000 lbs MTOW
- Fly with no more than 5 pax
- Flights within the US, under 250 kts under 18,001’ MSL
- Not fly for hire/compensation
What do I need to maintain BasicMed?
AC 68-1
1. Have CMEC completed by physician in the last 48 months
2. Being treated by a physician for medical conditions that can affect the safety of flight
3. Have a medical course completion completed with the last 24 calendar months
What is required recency of flight experience?
61.57
- Flight experience needed in order for me to operate an aircraft that I’m properly rated for.
The recency of flight experience include:
(a) General Experience
1. Carrying passengers, I would need to make 3 T/O and landings within the preceding 90 days
- Person/property may not be carried on board the aircraft, other than those necessary for the flight
- May be accomplished in a flight simulator
(b) Night Takeoff/Landings experience
1. Carrying pax at night from the period of 1hr after sunset to 1hr before sunrise
- within the last 90 days
- made 3 T/O and landings to a full stop
(c) Instrument Experience
1. 66HIT
- 6 IAP
- Holding procedures and tasks
- Intercepting and tracking courses through the use of electrical navigation systems
(d) Instrument Proficiency Check
- If “C” isn’t met in the time frame, IPC can be done by:
- Examiner
- Company check pilot
- CFI-I
- Person approved by the administrator
Do I need to log all my hours of commercial flying? What am I required to log?

- Technically speaking “no” but I’m going to need it for future ratings and requirements so I will log it
