-bilateral in 50%

Acute/repetitive trauma
-complicates many hip replacements

How does Trochanteric Bursitis present?
A
Hip pain
- radiates down lateral aspect of thigh-knee
- worse on movement/at night
- worse when lying on affected side

What are the signs on examination of Trochanteric Bursitis?
A
Point tenderness when palpating greater trochanter
Active adduction of slightly flexed hip past midline will exacerbate pain

What is the management of Trochanteric Bursitis?
A
Corticosteroid injections
Physiotherapy
Surgical release of fascia lata/excision of bursa
