Abnormal neuroinflammatory response to a traumatic event
-post injury/surgery
How does Complex Regional Pain Syndrome present?
Allodynia (pain response to non-painful stimulation)
Persistent pain in area affected
-out of proportion to initial injury
Stiffness/swelling along w/ abnormal hair/nail changes
What investigations may be appropriate in Complex Regional Pain Syndrome?
Bone scans (inc activity in affected limb)
What is the management of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome?
Specialist - involves pain team/psychological support/physiotherapy
What preventative options are available for Complex Regional Pain Syndrome?
Adequate analgesia at time of injury
Early mobilisation post fracture
