Region Anatomy of Brain Flashcards
What cut is this image and what is missing and what can we see?

This is a coronal image
We cant see rostral or caudal
We can see medial lateral and dorsal ventral
What cut is this image and what can we not see?

This is a sagittal section
We cannot see medial and lateral
What is this section and what can we not see?

This is an axial section and we cannot see dorsal or ventral
What are the three divisions of the brain?
Forebrain
Midbrain
Hindbrain
What are the two divisions of the hindbrain?
Metencephalon
Myelencephalon

What is the one division of the midbrain?
Mesencephalon

What are the two divisions of the forebrain?
Telencephalon
Diencephalon

What is the division of the myelencephalon?
Medulla
What are the two divisions of the metencephalon?
Pons
Cerebellum
*4th ventricle seperates these two

What are the two divisions of the mesencephalon?
Colliculi (sup and inf)
Substantia nigra (causes parkinsons)

What are the divisions of the diencephalon?
Neural retina
Thalamus
- processes information that goes to cerebral cortex
Hypothalamus
- endocrine system and autonomic system and expression of emotions

What are the divisions of the telencephalon?
Cerebral cortex
Basal ganglia
- nuclues in central nervous system not actually ganglia
- involved in movement but in a different way–> starting and stoping moving
Olfactory bulb
- super small in humans
What is the part of brain with axons that connects the two cerebral cortex of the brain?
- fibrous
- how the two cortexts communicate with eachother
- so this is white because it is axons
Corpus callosum

What space is located where his pointer is?

3rd ventricle
What is the space where his pointer is?

Cerebral aquaduct
What is the space where the pointer is?

4th ventricle
What is this division of the hindbrain?

Metencephalon
What is this region of the Midbrain?

Mesencephalon
What is this region of the forebrain?

Diencephalon
What is this region of the forebrain?

Telencephalon
What are the four lobes of the brain?
Frontal
Parietal
Temporal
Occipital

What is the fissure in the brain that separates the two cerebral hemispheres? Left and right
Medial longitudinal (interhemispheric) fissure

What is the fissure that separates the temporal lobe from the frontal lobe and part of the parietal lobe?
Lateral (Sylvian) Fissure

What is the sulcus that separates the precentral and postcentral gyri?
Central Sulcus
