He conducted a study, looking at how your social class, gender and the style of speech in part to your talk. Investigated 60 people on how they use -inv ending, and found the working-class use non-standard forms at the most. Although females were more likely to use standard forms among all social classes.
Labov department stores
Investigate the app annunciation in three department stores, sacks, Macy’s and S klein He asked the workers say ‘fourth floor’ and found that the workers in the higher class department shop use the correct R pronunciation more often.
Milroy and Milroy Belfast study
They looked at how close and open networks impact your language. In 3 suburbs in Belfast where male unemployment was high, they found that because men belonged to an open network they use standard English. Where is the women were in a close network used, non-standard English. Overall, your social network has more impact on your language than class or gender
