Refraction Flashcards
What is refraction?
The bending of light. It occurs because light changes speed, and direction when it moves from one medium into another.
Incident ray
The ray which is directed onto a surface.
Angle of incidence
The angle at which the ray hits a surface.
Angle of refraction
The angle made by a refracted ray, which is perpendicular to the refracting surface.
Refraction in the eye – what type of lens do we have, what is the purpose of this lens?
We have a biconvex lens, which helps to refract light to be focused into the retina.
What is a medium?
A substance which light will travel through. It could be a solid, liquid, or gas.
What is equal to the angle of Incidence?
The angle of reflection.
Define perpendicular
at an angle of 90 degrees, to a given line, or surface to the ground. (crossing over)
