Martin Luther

Protestant Reformation
the movement to reform the Church headed by Protestants, German princes who supported Luther. They seized lands of the Church and stopped taxes
Peasants’ Revolt
peasants started an armed rebellion against the Church and demanded the right to choose the priests. They also protested against the increase in their feudal dues
Peace of Augsburg
allowed individual rulers to decide for themselves what religion their territory would follow
Indulgence
the decrease in the punishment a sinner would suffer in purgatory after death
Ulrich Zwingli
a priest, taught in Zurich, abolished the Catholic Mass, confessions, and indulgences
