Deep Tendon Reflex
A
Biceps:C5- Hit bicep tendon
Brachioradialis:C6 - Hit the base of radial styloid process
Tricep:C7 - Swing hammer on thumb on olecranon process
Patellar:L4- strike patella tendon
Achilles Tendon: S1 - support ball of foot and dorsioflex, strike on achilles tendon
Medial Hamstring:L5 - strike medial hamstring over thumb
Hyporeflexia - LMN and NMJ
Hyperreflexia - UMN

Babinski and Hoffman signs

Babinski Sign
It is positive in babies.
Swipe a C across the bottom of the foot with a blunt object. If toes goe up and out its a positive. Indicates UMN disorder
Hoffman Sign
Test for UMN reflex
Support arm and hand and flick the middle finger down quickly. Looking for thumb flexing and adducting
