Primitive reflexes…
Disappear with age
Rooting
Turning head when cheek is touched to suck on nipple
Mororeflex
Abrupt movement of head causes flinging on arms then slow retraction and crying
Usually disappear after 4 mo
After a year it’s a sign of developmental difficulty and asymmetry is a sign of underlying neuromuscular problems
Babinski reflex
Toes spread when sole touched
Grasping reflex
Infants close fingers around an object placed in hand
Demyelination
Can cause adults to exhibit these primitive reflexes
Gross motor skills
Movement of large muscle groups
Fine motor skills
Fingers toes eyes
Drawing tracking catching waving
Social development
7 mo ~> stranger anxiety
1 yr ~> separation anxiety
play style at this time goes from solitary to onlooker
2 yr ~> parallel play
3 yr ~> conceptualize gender and engage in gender stereotyped play and know their name
5 yr ~> conformity and romantic feelings
6-12 yr ~> same sex friends no romantic feelings
Teens ~> independence and self sufficiency, inter gender friendships, become aware of gender identity and sexual orientation
