reflex arc Flashcards
What does each of neurons have? (2)
Explain
Cell body, contains nucleus of the cell
Axon + Dentrites, how information is carried across the body
What is at the end of an axon?
Axon terminals
What is the function of the myelin sheath? (2)
Where is it found?
-Protects the cell
-Increases the speed of the transmission of electrical information along the axon
Found on the axon
What is the muscle at the end of the neuron called?
What is it activated by?
Effector, activated by the motor neuron
What is the process of the reflex arc? (5)
- Sensation is detected that sensory neurons send through to the receptors e.g pain from hot temp
- Electrical signal rushes along the dentrite then to the axon SENSORY NEURON
- Once at the axon terminal, converts to a chemical signal and crosses the synaptic cleft RELAY NEURON
- Reflex responses go to the MOTOR NEURON
- Signal will reach the effector>causes muscle to move out of the danger
During the reflex arc process, where is information also sent from in the relay neuron?
Why?
When does the brain find out?
Why?
CNS
For processing
Brain will find out after the body has moved, reduces the risk of tissue damage?
