Intergroup contact
The contact hypothesis of prejudice reduction purposes that the more prejudice within social groups they will hold towards each other
Contact hypothesis
Takes time to produce beneficial results between group members and will not always be successful in reducing conflict.
Conditions must be met to achieve a reducing in prejudice.
including-
Shared goals, equal status, and mutual interdependence.
super ordinate goals
Goals both groups want to achieve, but can only do that if both groups cooperate.
This would decrease intergroup conflict
Mutual Interdependence
Groups depend on each other to meet their goals, i.e. they are co-dependent
Equal status
Both groups must have equal status and power
