what is prejudice?
Prejudices are unjustified attitudes towards members of social groups
What is discrimination?
Involves only the behavior aspect of attitude. As well as holding overgeneralized stereotypes.
What is direct discrimination?
An individual is treated unfairly because of a characteristic they have or are assumed to have.
Direct discrimination is intentional
What is indirect discrimination?
An individuals who have a particular characteristic are unfairly disadvantage due to the conditions or regulations that apply to everyone.
Indirect discrimination is often unintentional
Intergroup Behavior
Interactions of members from one group with members of another group.
Its is a learned behavior
Social influence
Children learn prejudice from their family, teachers, peers, and friends, these aspects reinforce prejudice learned from people around them.
Intergroup Competition
Competition over access to resources, wealth and jobs can lead to groups purposefully inciting prejudice against outgroups by portraying them as a threat.
