A

Hemiacetals with a reactive carbonyl group, they are readily oxidized to diverse products.

Examples: glucose, maltose, cellobiose, and lactose

Non reducing sugars

A

Carbohydrates that are not hemiacetals, are not readily oxidized as both anomeric carbon atoms are fixed in a glycosidic linkage.

Examples: sucrose
